Last week, we unboxed the Fairyloot July 2022 Adult book box. This week, we’ll discuss the Young Adult box, called Trials & Retribution.
About Fairyloot
Fairyloot is one of the best known UK book boxes that ship internationally. They offer two types of subscription plans: Young Adult (book box with goodies or book-only) and Adult (book-only). In most cases, their featured books are fantasy books. Next to their monthly subscription, they also have special edition boxes and exclusive editions.
The teaser
This is the info we received upfront:
- Dedicated to characters that are willing to do whatever is needed to achieve their goal
- Includes a highly requested item that was never included before
- The featured book follows the daughter of a failed revolutionary and a desperate prince, in a city trapped in the eye of a cursed magical storm.
The goodies
The first Item I discovered was a pin banner, inspired by Dance of Thieves and designed by Blanca Montiel. I don’t collect pins, so I have little to no use for a pin banner, unfortunately.
Next, I found the A5 print album. It’s quite pretty on the outside and it’s an acceptable quality, so I’m very happy with this one. Prints are my favourite bookish goodies so I can never have enough albums!
The box also included a set of metal straws. Normally, I would have been happy about this, but Illumicrate’s box also contained a set, so now I’m drowning in them. I think it means I have to throw a party soon to set them to good use 😉
There were also ankle socks inspired by Gideon the Ninth (designed by Forensics and Flowers) and another collectable letter opener, this one inspired by A Darker Shade of Magic and designed by Jezhawk. I will be selling both items as I have no use for them.
My favourite items were the tarot cards. This set was inspired by Blood Scion and consist of Strength and The Hermit. As usual, they were illustrated by Arz28.
The book
The featured book of the month is The Darkening by Sunya Mara. It’s an epic YA fantasy debut about two persons who are the only hope their trapped city still has left. Vesper will have a difficult choice to make: can she trust the devious prince or will she follow her mother’s footsteps into the Storm? Doesn’t this sounds absolutely fabulous!
The Fairyloot edition has an exclusive cover, two-colour stencil sprayed edges, foil on the hardcover, artwork on the endpapers, and is signed! It also came with an author letter.
