As soon as Fairyloot announced their theme for their December 2022 Young Adult box, I knew it was going to be one of those boxes right up my alley. And I am happy to say I was not mistaken!
About Fairyloot
Fairyloot is one of the best known UK book boxes that ship internationally. They offer two types of subscription plans: Young Adult (book box with goodies or book-only) and Adult (book-only). In most cases, their featured books are fantasy books. Next to their monthly subscription, they also have special edition boxes and exclusive editions.
The teaser
This is the info we received upfront:
- Standalone
- Magicians, romance, deadly magic…and vampires
The goodies
This box contained multiple collectible items:
- The 7th and 8th mythology bookmarks, representing Aphrodite and Ares (art by @gracezhuart).
- The next set of tarot cards, this one inspired by Girls of Paper and Fire (my review) and featuring Lei as The Sun and Wren as The Moon (art by @arz28).
Next to these, the following goodies were included in the box:
- A face towel inspired by The Night Circus (design by @blanca.design)
- A book sleeve inspired by Caraval (art by @kimcarlinka_art)
Last but certainly not least, the box contained a fandom neutral item, namely a set of bookends inspired by the theme of the month (design by @jezhawk).
My favourite items were without a doubt the tarot cards and the mythology bookmarks. As always, all items were high quality and beautifully designed. I wasn’t too fond of the face towel, but that’s just personal preference as I don’t have any use for it.
The book
The featured book of the month is Cruel Illusions by Margie Fuston. I am so excited about this book choice! It’s a standalone novel about a girl entering a dangerous (and potentially deadly) competition, filled with magic and vampires.
The Fairyloot edition has an exclusive, redesigned cover, digitally sprayed edges (a gorgeous design with roses), artwork on the endpapers, foil on the hardcover, and is signed by the author. It also comes with an author letter.
