Unboxing: De Boekenbuit Winter 2021 –  “Let it Snow”

Still running behind with my unboxings, unfortunately 🙁 Last time, we unboxed the January Illumicrate box. This time, let’s discover the Winter Box of De Boekenbuit, called “Let it snow”.

About De Boekenbuit

De Boekenbuit is a Dutch online company offering mystery books. Each month, you can make your pick between different genres, for each of which you get some hints to guess the title. They offer both English and Dutch books.

(Up until last year, they also offered mystery book boxes with goodies. This box is one of those. Told you I’m running behind ;))

The teaser

This is the info we received upfront:

The goodies

One of the most surprising things about De Boekenbuit seasonal boxes is the fact that they often include an extra book. This time, it’s a culinary book about chocolate: De Chocolade Bar by Anne-Marij de Koning. Although I’m very passionate about chocolate itself, I didn’t see myself making it any time soon, so I gifted it to a friend who’s really into baking. Such a lovely big goodie to be included in a book box!

The next goodie was more up my alley, namely a chocolate stick to make hot chocolate with mini marshmallows <3 yummy!

There was also a big candle with the scent of lilies and a bookish Christmas bauble.

As you know, artwork is usually my favourite part of a box. I loved the postcard by Anne Stokes included in this one, but I have to say that I adore the final goodie even more: super nice and thick socks, ideally for stay-at-home-with-coffee-and-books days! <3 <3 <3

The book

The featured book is The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker. I have to admit that I do not know anything about this writer, nor about her work. Exciting! This is exactly why I buy mystery book boxes <3 This book is set in 1890s Japan and tells the story about a girl who is half Reaper, half Shinigami. Driven out of London because of her differences, she flees to Japan and enters the underworld to serve the Goddess of Death… Ever since reading and watching Black Butler, I’ve been fascinated by Shinigami, so I’m so looking forward to reading this book!
