Unboxing: Fairyloot YA August 2022 – “Tell Me Lies”

Last month, we did an unboxing of the Young Adult Fairyloot July box. This time, we’ll discover their August box, called “Tell Me Lies”!

About Fairyloot

Fairyloot is one of the best known UK book boxes that ship internationally. They offer two types of subscription plans: Young Adult (book box with goodies or book-only) and Adult (book-only). In most cases, their featured books are fantasy books. Next to their monthly subscription, they also have special edition boxes and exclusive editions.

The teaser

This is the info we received upfront:

  • A darkly enchanting fantasy about a morally gray witch, a cursed prince, and a prophecy that ignites their fate-twisted destinies

The goodies

The first item I found was a velvety jewelry box, designed by Jezhawk and inspired by the featured book. I have to say, I love the beautiful design of this box. It’s a useful item, of high quality, and has a certain luxurious feel about it. Unfortunately, I dislike touching velvet intensely, so I will be selling it. But kudos to Fairyloot for this item, really nice!

Next, I discovered two items about which I was less enthusiastic. One was a list pad inspired by Romeo and Juliet (designed by Catarina Book Designs) and a pin inspired by Gilded (designed by No0ne Designs). Nothing wrong with these as such, I just don’t have a use for them.

Furthermore, the box contained a high quality bookshelf tote bag, designed by Chatty Nora. I love that it features several well-known books and I also really like the material and size. In general, I’m not the biggest fan of tote bags, but I will definitely be keeping this one! Note: in the meanwhile, I discovered it’s an amazing bag to transport my dance stuff.

This brings us to the paper items, my favourites <3 This box contained the next two collectable mythology bookmarks (with art by Grace Zhu Art), depicting Anubis and Apate, and a set of tarot cards inspired by Only a Monster, designed by Arz28.

The book

The featured book is Violets Made of Thorns by Gina Chen, which I have been seeing all over Bookstagram. Definitely looking forward to discovering this one!

The Fairyloot edition has an exclusive cover, art on the endpapers, ombre sprayed edges (so beautiful!), artwork printed directly on the hardcover (which I love <3) and comes with a signed bookplate, and an author letter.
