If there’s one thing I love, then it’s a story inspired by One Thousand and One Nights. The Fairyloot Young Adult box of May 2022, “Cloak & Dagger”, featured a book that fits that description perfectly <3
About Fairyloot
Fairyloot is one of the best known UK book boxes that ship internationally. They offer two types of subscription plans: Young Adult (book box with goodies or book-only) and Adult (book-only). In most cases, their featured books are fantasy books. Next to their monthly subscription, they also have special edition boxes and exclusive editions.
The teaser
This is the info we received upfront:
- Inspired by stories from One Thousand and One Nights
- It follows a legendary smuggler, a cowardly prince, and a dangerous quest across the desert to find a legendary, mythical lamp.
- Adult book, but YA Crossover friendly
The goodies
Let’s start with my favourite item of the box, the tarot card set. This month, the cards were inspired by These Hollow Vows. As always, they were illustrated by the amazing Arz28.
The box also contained another ceramic mug, inspired by Daughter of the Moon Goddess and designed by Kudriaken. While I love this mug way more than I loved the book, I’m starting to run out of shelf space rapidly. Soon, I will have to start selling some of the bookish mugs I’ve collected.
Fairyloot recently started a set of collectible bookmarks inspired by mythology. This box contained bookmark 3 and 4, depicting Loki and Kumiho. These lovely foiled bookmarks were created by Grace Zhu.
Unfortunately, that concludes the items I liked in this particular box. There were also a bottle opener inspired by the Red Rising Series (designed by Iron & Ink Designs), a tea strainer inspired by the featured book (designed by Blanca Montiel), and a set of hair scrunchies inspired by From Blood and Ash (designed by Catarinabookdesigns), but I’m sad to say that none of these could really convince me.
The book
Seeing that I wasn’t so excited about the goodies in this box, I was thrilled that the book is right up my alley. The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah, has everything to be my next bookish obsession. My review will follow soon!
This Fairyloot edition has an exclusive cover, sprayed edges, foil on the hardcover, artwork on the endpaper, and it’s signed. It also comes with an author letter.
