Unboxing: Illumicrate September 2022 – “Book Devourers”

Time for another Illumicrate unboxing! Last month, I discussed the August box, so now let’s hear it for the September 2022 box, which is a fandom neutral box!

Would you prefer to watch the video unboxing instead? Check it out on my Instagram or TikTok!

About Illumicrate

Illumicrate is one of the best known UK book boxes that ship internationally. They offer both a full box and a book-only subscription, and the books they feature are generally YA fantasy, but they also include other genres and adult books. Next to their monthly subscription, they also have special edition boxes and exclusive editions.

The goodies

The first item I spotted was a book organiser, called “books are my weakness” and designed by Fez Inkwright. While it’s certainly pretty and high quality, I had little to no use for it. Luckily, I was able to sell it very quickly and for a decent price too!

The next item was so amazing! A set of reading prompt cards that help you decide which book to read next. I had never before encountered such cards, so these really delighted me. They were designed by Franziska Stern.

The box also included two snack plates (which are apparently small sized plates), in a dark and light theme and designed by Adrianne Bresijn. These are so very beautiful, I’ll definitely be keeping these!

As announced, the box also contained the next ceramic book pot in the collection, designed by Chatty Nora. This one is meant to be an ode to all libraries. I’m personally not at all a fan of these, but I was lucky to sell it very quickly too.

The book

The featured book is The Book Eaters by Sunyi Dean. This debut novel tells about people who use books as food. Original, isn’t it? I’m looking forward to reading the story.

The Illumicrate edition has an exclusive cover and endpapers, digitally sprayed edges, full-colour printing on the hardback and is signed.
