Unboxing Tiny Tree Trunk August 2021 – “Alles heeft een prijs”

I must have been such a good girl this year. Two book boxes arrived in two weeks!

This time, it’s my very first Monthly Mystery Box of Tiny Tree Trunk.

About Tiny Tree Trunk

Tiny Tree Trunk is an online company specialising in book boxes for children and young adults, as well as special occasion boxes (e.g. a box for Mother’s Day, a Fall box). There are multiple boxes available each month, as well as a Dutch and an English yearly subscription. What’s special about these boxes is that some (i.e. the specials) allow buyers to select a book themselves up to a maximum amount. Like that, you can personalise a box as a gift to someone, for example.  For the boxes with a fixed book, you can either choose to be surprised, or scroll down to the bottom of the page to already discover which book will be included.

The teaser

As a first box, I chose the Dutch Young Adult Box of August, called “Alles heeft een prijs” (Everything has a price). Those who have read my reviews before, might know that I do not normally read Dutch translations. However, I was intrigued by the name of the box (Doesn’t it remind you of the amazing Rumpelstiltskin? All magic has a price, Dearie!) and when I realised which book it would be, I had to have it!

The hints that were given were as follows:

  • Beautiful limited Edition
  • Enchanting Urban Fantasy trilogy by the Author of the Folk of the Air series
  • A magical trip to a horrifying Fairy Realm, written beautifully and with lots of volatile characters
  • First part of a series, translated in Dutch

I bet you can already guess the book!

The goodies

I first discovered the character art prints of Roiben and Kaye, created by Annalise Jensen. They are so beautiful! They’re about the format of a photo, so I think they will fit in nicely in my Art Print collection book. So excited! Character art is what I love most in book boxes!

Next, I found a nice sticker, with character art of Kaye, created by Annie Ramey, and a bookmark with a quote from the story: “Crippled things are always more beautiful. It’s the flaw that brings out beauty”. That sentence manages to be so beautiful and so Cardan at the same time!

There’s also a bag of Fairy Tea from De Theeboom and several tea bags. It smells delightful <3 It’s green tea with papaya, carrot, sun flower, mallow, and vanilla.

The candle is also in Fae theme, with a vegan eco soy candle with apple flower scent, called “Court of Seelie”. Accompanied by a book of matchsticks with quotations from the book. (I didn’t get it at all at first, until I read the quotation).

Last but not least, a jar of real pixie dust 😉 to salt your bath water.

What surprised (and delighted!) me most was the presence of the character art work (rather unusual in Dutch book boxes I have the impression) and the fact that all goodies seemed to match so well with the book. In short: I loved this box!

The book

As you might have already guessed (or seen on the picture), the book is Water by the amazing Holly Black. This Dutch translation of Tithe is a special limited edition with sprayed edges and is the first part of the Modern Faerie Tales (Called Faerie Trilogie in Dutch).

It tells the story of Kaye, a sixteen-year-old who travels with her mother’s rock band. When disaster strikes, she’s forced to return to her childhood home and finds herself in the middle of a power struggle between two rival Faerie kingdoms.

Oh I simply ADORED the Folk of the Air series, so I cannot wait to start this trilogy.

Did you already read it? What did you think about it? Just as good? Better?
