I admit, I might have a book-buying problem. I’ve had a lifelong passion for collecting treasures, and these last couple of years, my main focus has been special editions. Particularly, special editions by Fairyloot and Illumicrate, two UK-based book box subscription companies.

My ultimate book goal? Reviewing all their books. Impossible you say? Why, yes, my dear, you might very well be right. But I will try nevertheless! Consider it my biggest bookish challenge.

Fairyloot

Subscription boxes

Fairyloot currently offers three subscription types, with a fourth on its way:

• Young Adult Fantasy (monthly, two options: with items or book-only)
• Adult Fantasy (monthly, book-only)
• Romantasy (monthly, book-only)
• Epic Fantasy (quarterly, book-only)

Special editions

Next to their subscription boxes, Fairyloot also frequently publishes different types of special editions:

• Special Edition Boxes (one book with items)
• Iron Editions (extra special editions of books for which an older Fairyloot edition already exists)
• Mortal Editions (non-fantasy books)
• Separate Special Editions (split alphabetically below, as there are so many)

Illumicrate

Subscription boxes

Illumicrate currently offers four subscription types:

• Illumicrate (Young Adult or Adult Fantasy, monthly, two options: with items or book-only)
• Afterlight (Adult Contemporary Romance, monthly, book-only)
• Evernight (Young Adult or Adult Horror, quarterly, book-only)
• Starbright (Adult Science Fiction, quarterly, book-only)

Note: before the launch of Starbright, Science Fiction books were also included occasionally in the Illumicrate box.
