Review: Shadowsphere – Kevin Cox

Earlier today, I published my review of Bewilderness by Kevin Cox. I thought you all deserved a treat, so I am publishing my review of part two of the Bewilderness Series, Shadowsphere, right away as well!

Shadowsphere

Shadowsphere is book two in the series but it’s set before the events of book one. Meet Tavarian, a boy who lives in a world in despair. Rethia lies up a mountain and its population struggles due to food shortages. The solution would be to get Rokenstones that would allow for more food production. In order to get these, several youngsters are selected each year to go down the mountain to Rootcore, the bottom world. This is not without danger, however, as no one has ever returned.

Even better than book one

I loved going on this fantasy/sci-fi adventure. I loved book one, but book two blew me away. As of the beginning, I felt a connection with the main character, which allowed me to be pulled into the adventure right away. I really appreciated the author’s writing style. The story is plot and dialogue driven, while at the same time, the rich world we got to know in book one keeps being expanded. This book reads like a movie or an immersive video game, it’s all so vivid. And the plot twists ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I cannot recommend this series highly enough! And, once again, isn’t the cover just perfect? <3

Update: In the meanwhile, part three, Neverscape, has been published. Check out my review here!

If you are looking for more YA fantasy by indie authors, I highly recommend checking out the Water-Folk Saga by Victoria Ravenwood. This series is the adventurous story of Cali, a girl who has always known she was different. My review of part one, Jade and Tar, can be found here. Great wordbuilding, interesting characters, and high-seas adventures, this series has it all!

Furthermore, I have also an indie adult fantasy recommendation: The Chaos Covenant Series by Kate Craft. If you cannot get enough of exploring other dimensions after having caught up on the Bewilderness Series, this is a great next series to start. My review of part one, Chaos Forged a Fable, can be read on my Instagram.
