Unboxing: Tiny Tree Trunk October 2021 – “Revenant”

Last month, I received the Tiny Tree Trunk September 2021 box “A Gift & A Curse” with Forestborn by Elayne Audrey Becker (My unboxing). This time I chose another English YA box, called “Revenant”.

About Tiny Tree Trunk

Tiny Tree Trunk is an online company specialising in book boxes for children and young adults, as well as special occasion boxes (e.g. a box for Mother’s Day, a Fall box). There are multiple boxes available each month, as well as a Dutch and an English yearly subscription. What’s special about these boxes is that some (i.e. the specials) allow buyers to select a book themselves up to a maximum amount. Like that, you can personalise a box as a gift to someone, for example.  For the boxes with a fixed book, you can either choose to be surprised, or scroll down to the bottom of the page to already discover which book will be included.

The teaser

The hints that were given were as follows:

  • Matches the spooky Halloween season
  • Paranormal fantasy
  • Part one
  • Well-known author
  • No romance!
  • Hardcover

If I could read humans’ minds, I wouldn’t have ended up trapped inside a little girl’s finger bone.

The goodies

I first discovered a mug with character art by Rejam and a quotation from the featured book: “Sometimes, if you want to save other people, you need to remember to save yourself first”.

Next, I found an Eco Soy candle named “Silver flames” with the scent of incense and patchouli and designed to fit the book. As you might remember, scented candles tend to be a hit or miss with me and I have to admit I haven’t quite decided yet what I think about this particular scent. It’s definitely original, that’s for sure.

There was also a fun pen with a quotation from the featured book: “humans are all idiots”. I’m taking this one to the office with me, no doubt about that!

Next, I found a sticker with a raven and skulls (both are always wins with me <3) designed by Bayu and a set of beer coasters with illustrations by Warm_tail.

Last but not least, there were a bookmark with quotation and illustration, and a card with fanart of the featured book, once again by Rejam. Definitely my favourite goodies in this box!

The book

I’ve so been looking forward to receiving this featured book! Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson is high on my TBR-list. It’s a normal hardcover edition but both the dust jacket and the naked cover are very elegant and mysterious. I like it! It tells the story of a girl training to be a nun who cleanses the bodies of the deceased. But when her convent is attacked, Artemisia defends it by awakening an ancient spirit (a revenant) that threatens to possess her. It sounds so fascinating! I’m just a tiny bit worried by the hint that it wouldn’t contain any romance, but at the same time, I’m always happy to step out of my literary comfort zone!
